Cinemalaya X Full List of Winners

The Cinemalaya Foundation awarded the best of the best in this year’s festival during last night’s awards ceremony. I haven’t watched all the films so I couldn’t really react about the results but those who were able to watch most, if not all, of the films have mixed reactions about the winners.

Kasal was the only film in the Directors Sh0wcase category, and I think I have voiced enough how disappointed I was with the film. I so badly wanted to like it so much. But there were errors in the film that prevented me from doing such. But if the critics thought that it was the best film under the category, I wonder how I would like the other films if I watched them.

In the case of Dagitab and #Y, I couldn’y agree more with the awards they got. I was only able to watch Dagitab, #Y, Ronda and 1st Ko Si 3rd under the New Breed Category, but I am sold with Dagitab winning Best  Screenplay and Best Director. The lead characters of #Y winning a Special citation for Ensemble Acting was also justified, in my opinion, given how well their characters “lived” in the movie.

But the best part was Eula Valdes winning Best Actress (New Breed). That was sooooo well-deserved. I wrote in my review that she had a strong chance at winning, if only for her photoshoot scene. But she was really great in the movie. Congratulations!
