Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka Secret Wedding in Italy

Neil Patrick Harris (41), whose most memorable TV roles include Dr. Doogie Houser and Barney Stinson, surprised the online world when he announced that he and long-time partner actor and chef David Burtka (39) got married last Saturday in Italy.

Harris posted this on his Twitter account Monday, two days after their wedding:

Legendary singer Elton John sang on their wedding.

The couple announced their engagement, also on Twitter on June 2011 after the passage of the Marriage Equality Act in New York.

Just last month, several articles were published saying that the two have split. Harris answered the rumors by posting a photo of his family, B and their children, on Instagram with the caption : I couldn’t be more in love with my family,” Harris wrote. “Any reports to the contrary are woefully mistaken. #grateful.

This is such great news. The couple has been an inspiration to same-sex couples longing for a lasting relationship. We know that their relationship is very far from perfect, but it looks like they go through it with all smiles.

Congratulations to the newly weds! And may you spread more smiles and inspiration to the whole world. You are both LEGEN-wait for it-DARY! 🙂
